Teens School Holiday Sewing Course (3 Days)
Over three full days (9:30am–3:30pm each day), the teens will learn machine sewing fundamentals under the guidance of our friendly and skilled instructors in a warm and supportive environment. By the end of the program, your teen will take home several projects and a newfound sense of accomplishment in their sewing abilities.
Throughout the course, students get plenty of hands-on practice with different sewing techniques (straight stitching, backstitch, hemming, finishing raw edges, sewing curves, inserting elastic and zippers). By completing multiple projects, they progressively build skills while keeping things fresh and exciting each day. Absolutely everyone leaves with handmade items they’re proud of – and the knowledge to continue sewing beyond the class.
We end the third session with a light, non-sewing creative activity so the group can unwind, celebrate their achievements, and have fun together.
What you'll learn
Day 1 – Tote Bag & Cushion
- Learn how to set up and thread a sewing machine
- Learn how to sew straight lines
- Design fabric using fabric dye pens
- Following a pattern to make a tote bag
- Learn how to make bag straps from scratch
- Learn how to hem
- Follow a pattern to create a simple cushion cover
Day 2 – Elastic Waist Shorts or Pants (with pockets)
- Reading and cutting a commercial sewing pattern
- Learn how to find their hip measurement
- How to cut the fabric from the pattern
- Gain experience in sewing curved seams, hemming, and sewing pockets
Day 3 – Zippered Pencil Case
- Learn how to interface with fusible fleece
- Install a zipper
- Topstitching
- Sew boxed corners
- Line the pencil case
- Everything is included for the Sewing for Beginners class – just bring yourself.
- Sewing machines, threads, and tools provided for all classes.
- A quick reference card to keep by your machine at home
- Printed sewing patterns for each project to take home
- Expert guidance from our experienced instructors
- Complimentary water, tea and coffee
ⓧ Fabric for the two garment-making classes are not included and will need to be purchased separately. We’ve designed it this way so you can choose something you’ll love to wear. We’ll send you a detailed shopping list with all the info you need.
- This class is open to everyone aged 18+, and you don’t need any prior sewing experience.
- A lot of people come solo, so if you’re thinking about booking on your own – chances are you won’t be the only one. Our teachers are warm, friendly, and always make sure solo guests feel welcome and supported.
- We welcome all genders and identities in our inclusive space.
- Choose your dates from our availability calendar for each class
- Cushion insert not included in the Sewing For Beginners class but available to purchase on the day for $10
- Fabric for the two garment-making classes are not included. It’s been designed this way so you can choose something you love to wear. We’ll send you a detailed shopping list with all the info you need.
- Please arrive 10 minutes early to settle in
- Closed-toe shoes are recommended for your safety
